Ringing in the New Year | Goals!

I say this every year, but I can’t believe the year is already over! Now that the holiday decorations are down (at my house anyways) I suppose it’s time to start thinking of goals for the new year. I’ve never been a resolution maker but I do try to make a few goals and jot them down. Here is my list for 2013. Does yours look similar?

Small acts of kindness. I’d like to spend more time and energy doing things for other people. It’s very easy to get caught up in a busy life and forget to show others what they mean. I plan on sending hand written cards just because (and encouraging my 4 year old to do the same), paying for the car behind me in the coffee drive-thru when I can, and calling (not texting or emailing!) friends and family just to say hello.

Organizing our home. We recently moved and our spare room has become the catch-all. You know the boxes you open, don’t really know where to unload it, tell yourself you’ll take care of it later? Yes, those. Those are in my spare room. It’s time to face the music. Which leads me to my next goal!

Donate things we aren’t using. I try and do this monthly – a sweep of our “stuff” to reevaluate how much we use or need it. Clutter really creates anxiety for me, so I’d love to take a day and really do this – and be really honest with myself about what needs to go. Often we hang on to things because we think we’ll use it later, but the truth is we probably won’t.

Organize the photos on our computer. I take a lot of pictures. And I’m not that great about tagging them or organizing them. This year I’m vowing to sit down and take (hours? a day? Oh my.) the time to organize my folders, back them up on my external hard drive, and be better about naming folders and using tags so I can find them easier.

Print and make photo albums. In the same vein, I need to work on printing all those photos! I have a blog, which is a great photo album, but I take so many more photos than I ever use on my blog. I need to make albums of favorites and be better about printing larger photos for frames. I used to be really good at this before digital came along – my home was filled with printed pictures. But now when we don’t have to print them to see what they turned out like, they seem to sit in that (messy) computer folder.

Drink more water. This is on my list every year. I can’t help it – I’m just bad at drinking water. Coffee, however…

What are some of your resolutions/goals for 2013?
